格拉迪瓦的足迹/Gradiva's Footprints
在德国作家威廉·延森（Wilhelm Jensen）的小说《格拉迪瓦》（Gradiva）中，考古学家哈诺德在一种“回到原初”的渴望与驱力下，前往庞贝古城的历史余烬中追觅格拉迪瓦的足迹。而在此种亦真亦幻的境界中，我们却最终发现“格拉迪瓦”不过是哈诺德记忆中所留存的形象的化身，或是其长久渴望着的“正午幽灵”（spectre de midi）的现身。
德里达认为档案就“发生在记忆在起源和结构上失灵的地方”，它同时面向过去与未来，并始终被外部性和“重复”的技术所定义，它暗含某种动态或时序的拓扑学结构，以试图复刻完整的、已逝去的生动记忆。运动影像对持续时间和记忆的动态性的捕捉能力创造了一种新类型的存档，而技术本身的流动性也使得档案不变与可变的领域愈发交织缠绕在一起，拓展了转译的空间与向度。
从蒙尘的家庭影像到机构所保管的档案资料，再到以胶片、VHS、监控录像与现代便携设备等各种媒介形式存储的拾得影像，个体面对肉身所承载的记忆可能失效的威胁驱动着我们的“档案之欲”（désir d’archive）。在选择、诠释、模仿、转译、重组、挪用等种种姿势中，我们在这一充满了不确定和脆弱性的知识场域中探寻着阐明与澄清的可能，或是重新组装、生成新的语义。从沉默的边缘历史，到更包容的话语，如何唤起某些记忆却不陷入一种强迫性的怀旧？在由某一现实分岔出的歧路中，档案电影单元的22部作品向我们开放其自身。（贺琳）
In the German author Wilhelm Jensen's novel Gradiva, the archaeologist Hanold, driven by a longing to "return to the origin," journeys to the historical ruins of Pompeii in search of the traces of Gradiva. However, in this realm where reality and fantasy intertwine, we ultimately discover that "Gradiva" is merely an incarnation of the image that remains in Harold's memory, or perhaps the manifestation of his long-held desire for the "noon spectre" (spectre de midi).
Derrida argues that the archive "occurs in the place where memory fails in both origin and structure." It faces both the past and the future, and is always defined by externality and the "repetition" of technique. It implicitly suggests a dynamic or temporal topological structure, attempting to replicate the complete and lost vivid memory. The ability of moving images to capture the dynamic of duration and memory creates a new type of archive, while the fluidity of the technique itself increasingly entangles the domains of the unchanging and the mutable, expanding the space and dimensions of translation.
From dusty family films to archival materials stored by institutions, to found footage preserved in various media forms such as film, VHS, surveillance videos, and modern portable devices, the threat of the potential failure of the memory carried by the physical body drives our "desire for the archive" (désir d’archive). Through various gestures such as selection, interpretation, imitation, translation, reorganization, and appropriation, we explore the possibilities of clarification and understanding in this field of knowledge filled with uncertainty and fragility, or perhaps reassemble and generate new meanings. From the silent margins of history to more inclusive discourses, how can we evoke certain memories without falling into a compulsive nostalgia? In the divergent paths that stem from a certain reality, the 22 works in the archive film unit open up their own possibilities for us. (He Lin)
